What a kid’s dental care actually costs in Jacksonville

Here’s something you won’t find on most Jacksonville dental websites: a number. Pediatric pricing usually hides behind “schedule a consultation,” which is a strange way to treat parents doing budget math. So before we even open, here is the founding fee schedule as it applies to a child: cleaning $79, periodic exam $60, fluoride varnish $45, sealants $55 per tooth, and white fillings from $175 to $295 depending on the tooth and surfaces. One honest disclosure up front: we don’t keep a separate “kids’ menu.” A child’s visit is assembled from the same published schedule as everyone else’s — which means there’s no pediatric markup hiding in the gap between two price lists.

The second thing parents deserve is knowing what moves those numbers. A first visit costs more than a recall visit, X-rays only appear when they’re actually due, and a cavity adds a defined line item — never a mystery one. The factors below cover all of it, along with what happens when the $25/month child membership turns the entire prevention layer into $0 line items. Every figure is confirmed in writing before treatment starts, and the schedule locks at opening in September 2026.

What moves the price up or down

First visit vs. a routine recall
A new patient gets a comprehensive exam at $95; after that, checkups run at the periodic-exam rate of $60. Pair that with the $79 child cleaning and the recall visit lands at $139 — the number your calendar actually lives with, not the first-visit number.
Whether X-rays are due
Kids’ X-ray schedules follow age and cavity risk, not habit. Bitewings are $65 for the set and typically appear about once a year; if nothing is due, nothing is taken and nothing is billed. The kiosk knows the history, so a busy front desk can’t accidentally re-order them.
The prevention layer: fluoride and sealants
Fluoride varnish is $45 — or $0 at every visit on the child membership. Sealants are $55 per tooth ($44 for members) and usually enter the picture when the permanent molars arrive, most often four teeth in one short visit: $220, or $176 on the plan.
If a cavity turns up: which tooth, how many surfaces
A one-surface white filling on a front tooth is $175; on a back tooth $195; two surfaces $245; three $295. Members pay $140–$236. You see the exact figure in writing the same visit it’s diagnosed — and the filling gets its own short visit rather than being bolted onto the checkup.
Pay-per-visit vs. the $25/month child plan
The child membership covers every cleaning and exam, all routine X-rays, and fluoride at every visit, then discounts everything else on the schedule by 15–25%. For a kid who visits on our ~90-day rhythm, the plan covers more visits without the price moving.
The cases we refer out
A child who needs sedation or hospital-level pediatric care is referred to a specialist, with a plain explanation of why. That’s a cost factor in the honest sense: those fees belong to the specialist’s schedule, and we will never improvise that kind of care in-house just to keep the billing.

The membership math

Run one child’s prevention year at published fees: two cleanings ($79 × 2 = $158), two exams ($60 × 2 = $120), one set of bitewings ($65), and fluoride twice ($45 × 2 = $90) — about $433 pay-per-visit. The child membership is $300 a year ($25 × 12) and includes all of it, with fluoride at every visit instead of twice. Add the common molar-sealant year — four teeth — and a member pays $176 instead of $220. That’s roughly $175 saved on prevention alone, before the 15–25% member pricing ever touches a filling ($140–$236 instead of $175–$295).

Questions, answered plainly

What will my child’s first visit cost with no insurance?

Comprehensive exam $95, child cleaning $79, fluoride varnish $45 — $219, or $284 if bitewing X-rays ($65) are due by age and history. Bring records from a previous office and anything already current drops off the total. You’ll see the arithmetic before we start, not on a statement afterward.

Why is there no separate kids’ price list?

Because separate lists are where padding hides. A child’s cleaning, exam, fluoride, sealants, and fillings are ordinary line items on the same founding fee schedule every adult sees — same codes, same published numbers. If a kids’ price ever differs (a $79 cleaning versus $105 for adults, for instance), the difference is printed, not discovered.

Do you take Florida Medicaid or KidCare?

No — and we’d rather say so plainly than let you find out at checkout. We open fee-for-service with the membership as the affordability engine: $25 a month covers a child’s cleanings, exams, routine X-rays, and fluoride. For families with PPO plans, we file out-of-network claims where the plan allows, and in-network credentialing with the major carriers begins the day our lease signs.

A filling for a seven-year-old — what am I realistically paying?

Most single cavities in kids land between $175 and $245 at founding fees, depending on the tooth and surfaces; the ceiling on the schedule is $295 for a three-surface back tooth. Members pay $140–$236. The number is quoted in writing at diagnosis, and it doesn’t change between the quote and the chair.

Are sealants worth $55 a tooth?

The math is the argument: sealing the four permanent molars costs $220 ($176 for members), while a single one-surface filling in a back tooth runs $195 — and fillings, unlike sealants, tend to bring company over a lifetime. Sealants exist to keep food and plaque out of exactly the grooves where most kids’ cavities start. We’ll tell you when your child’s molars are at the right stage; it’s a short visit, not a project.

Come in when it works for you.

We open September 2026 in the Ponte Vedra–Nocatee corridor. Founding members lock $29/month for life — cleanings, exams, X-rays, and a whitening touch-up with every visit.
